Gedeon Olah - My Personal Testimony
I grew up in a Baptist family. When I was fourteen, I made a decision and was baptized, but my life hardly changed.
Before long, I began living just like other unbelieving teenagers. The only difference was that I attended church. When I was eighteen, I met a girl at a church camp, and because of her I tried to live better.
After two years, we were married and we lived our “Christian” life. We were in church every single service and we served in the church too like everyone else. However, I felt that something was not right within. We thought that there was a problem with the church, and we moved to another city, Derecske, to attend a church that we thought would be better, but nothing much changed. I felt powerless, despite the fact that I was successful. In the church in Derecske, I was both a deacon and a youth leader, and I preached regularly as well.
In 1994, we went for a few months to Warren, Michigan where my wife's sister lived. We started attending a church in the area, and the pastor, Dr. David Cummins, had a great impact on my life.
After six months, when we were preparing to go home, Dr. Cummins recommended Jim Knies to us, a missionary who was living with his family in Pécs.
Jim Knies invited us to Pécs for the first worship service where I was very touched with the simple, clear preaching of the Gospel through which God led us to come and help the Knies family in the church planting ministry. In March of 1995, we moved to Pécs.
In the beginning of our service for the Lord in Pécs, Brother Jim asked me to tell him how I became a Christian. I could not give a clear answer to the question. I did not know for sure whether I was headed for heaven or hell.
I was then confronted with Matthew 7:21, Ephesians 2:8-9, and 2 Corinthians 3:5. I had to realize that I had never repented, that I was not saved , that my eighteen-year Baptist church membership was not enough, and that it is not possible to be saved by works.
That same evening, May 2, 1995, I asked God to forgive my wrongdoing. I confessed all my sins and accepted Jesus Christ as my personal Savior, once and for all!
Now I know for sure with 100% certainty that no matter what happens, I am headed for heaven.
1 John 5:12-13 “He that hath the Son hath life... These things have I written unto you... that ye may know that ye have eternal life.”
